BHA Beta Hydroxy Acid

In a previous post I've talked about something I like to call The Acid Trinity.

Here you'll learn about the famous BHA and who it's good for.

A recap

BHA [ Beta Hydroxy Acid ] is a chemical exfoliant that not only works on the skin's surface, but also deep within the skin's pores due to it's oil-soluble properties. This makes it an expert at clearing out excess sebum, blackheads and acne.

A bit more

  • It can exfoliate dead skin cell build up inside pores to keep them in check so this is your perfect partner to fight acne, congestions and breakouts.

  • Could be used on sensitive skin for calming and soothing inflammation.

  • Less irritant that it's AHA counterpart.

  • Especially beneficial for combination, oily and blemish prone skin.

How does it show up in my ingredient list?

You will mainly see it as one of these ingredients: bentaine salicylate, salicylic acid & willow bark extract

Bentaine Salicylate

An alternative to Salicylic Acid and a gentle exfoliant, this one's derived from mostly sugarcanes.

Salicylic Acid

Beneficial for acne prone and congested skin as it's effective at treating breakouts and preventing clogged pores

Willow Bark Extract

This one is ideal for acne and sensitive skin as it reduces inflammation and redness. It is also the natural alternative to Salicylic Acid

In Conclusion

BHA is a chemical exfoliant that works deep within your pores to clear out any unwanted dead skin cells, excess sebum and helps to treat acne inflammation and calms sensitive skin.

You should be able to see visible results almost instantly, however the best results will appear more around 12 weeks after consistent application [ however often as directed or that you are comfortable with ].
